FAQ about shooting Joy Anna Duggar & Austin Forsyth's Wedding:
How did you get to photograph the Duggar wedding?
Jon's family has known the Duggar family since before they had kids! They've followed our love story online and kept up to date with our happenings. It's always special when friends ask us to shoot their weddings!
What was it like to shoot a Duggar wedding?
It was like a mini reunion! Since Jon grew up with the Duggars for a time, there were so many people there he knew! There were people I knew as well, but Jon definitely knew more people than I! Jon is a social butterfly and loves being with people, so naturally, he had a blast reconnecting with old friends!
Besides reconnecting with friends and meeting many new people, it was a very long day. The church was massive, so we did a lot of walking (probably a few miles!). The crew was very well taken care of with snacks, drinks, and meals - for that, we were very grateful!
There were cameras positioned all throughout the church, and we had to avoid being in the shots as much as possible (and to follow instructions). Everything worked out great!
Have you gotten a lot of business from shooting the Duggar wedding?
Nope! We received a lot of traffic to our website from the credit we received from the Duggar's blog, but no inquires. However, we didn't shoot the wedding with the hopes of getting more business. It was a fun experience since the wedding was different from a typical wedding (massive cameras and paparazzi don't exactly grace every wedding!).
Are your images all over People and TLC (as well as other publications)?
Actually, yes and no! TLC hired another couple to shoot the wedding to get a detailed shot list of what they wanted while we focused on serving the Duggar family and capturing every moment. A couple of our images did get published, but Lissa Chandler and her husband were the other talented photographers whose images you most likely saw online and in magazines!
How was it working with TLC and the film crew?
F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C. Sure, they're filming for a reality tv show, but behind every camera is a person who the family knows. The voice on the other end of the ear piece directing cameras and groups is also a friend who has seen the Duggar children grow up. It was a joint effort to ensure that the day flowed smoothly.
What were your restrictions?
This one called for some creativity! We had to stay clear of the windows so that the paparazzi wouldn't get a shot before TLC and People released the images (you guys - the paparazzi thought they were getting married the weekend before and apparently CAMPED OUT on the outskirts of the church property. Thankfully, there were only a couple paparazzi that were spotted - security took care of that since they weren't allowed on the property). The wedding party photos were taken directly outside the church against the wall. Black drapery was set up to create a cube while the crew members held the drapes down from the occasional winds (which were welcomed because it was hot and humid!). There was also a massive umbrella wall to shield everyone as they walked out the door and into the curtained area. It was definitely a group effort!
Most of these photos in this post were taken directly after the ceremony at a private location.
What was your favorite moment from the wedding day?
There were many sweet and memorable moments from the wedding day! First off, when you watch the episodes on TLC, you can hear comments passed back and forth between the couple during the ceremony. None of that was audible in-person! That was definitely a favorite when we watched the episode.
When we were driving to the private location for portraits after the ceremony, we rode in a van with the couple, Chad (their PR guy), and a driver. Joy was sitting on Austin's lap in the second row as they were relishing in the excitement and joy of being married (I sat in the back row looking through images, giving them sneak peaks of the images!). Joy made a comment that struck me as funny, "Lord, please keep the paparazzi away and that they won't follow us!!!" Funny, because I've never heard a Bride pray that prayer before! In addition, I realized how differently they've grown up being in the public spotlight. The concerns she had would never have crossed my mind on my wedding day! We were grateful for a safe, joyful, and beautiful wedding day for them!
Will we see more images from the wedding?
Sadly, no. We were only allowed to post 7 images, so we selected some that haven't been seen yet. It was hard, and there's so many we wish we could share! Oh, well!
Congrats to you both on your marriage and now pregnancy!
